The social jukebox for Roon
Roon Riot hands the aux to the whole room. Everyone queues, everyone votes, everyone's a DJ. Your guests only need a phone with a browser. Your hi-fi keeps doing what it does best.
Built for Roon households
If you run Roon, you already have the best-sounding party system on the block. What you don't have is a way to let twenty people pick the music without passing a tablet around. Roon Riot fixes that.
A small host plugin runs on a computer on your network and pairs with your Roon Core as a Roon extension. It searches your library, queues tracks to the zone you choose, and reports what is playing. Your guests never touch Roon. They tap a link, and Roon Riot does the rest.
How a riot works
Create a room.
- Name your party and pick a vibe: eight visual themes from Synthwave to Supper Club
- Set how long the room stays open and how many coins each DJ starts with
- Pair the host plugin, pick a Roon zone, and open the doors
Scan and play.
- Scan the QR code or type the room code, then pick a DJ name
- Search the host's Roon library and spend a coin to queue a song
- Cheer 🤘 the songs you love and throw 🍅 at the ones you don't
Coins, cred and tomatoes
A queue with no rules turns into one person's playlist. Roon Riot runs a small economy so the crowd stays in charge.
Coins
Queueing a song costs a coin. Everyone starts with the stash the host chose, earns a coin back when their song plays, and mints more as their picks collect cheers. Hanging around the party pays out too. Got a banger that can't wait? Spend a few coins to jump the queue.
Tomatoes
Every DJ carries a tomato. Throw it at the current track to say no. When enough tomatoes land, the room skips the song and the DJ who queued it gets a Vibe Check. Tomatoes come back when one of your own songs plays through, so use them wisely.
Cred
The leaderboard ranks DJs by plays and cheers, not by coins. The DJ with the most cred at the end of the night has the bragging rights.
More than a queue
- Big screen. Every room has a TV view with now playing, the queue, the leaderboard, and a join QR code.
- Riot-Bot. Point the room at one of your Roon playlists and it fills any gaps so the music never stops.
- Last call. When the room's time is up, the queue drains and the crowd gets a set list of everything that played.
- Real hi-fi. Playback stays inside Roon, on your zones, at your quality. Roon Riot never streams audio.
Questions
Do my guests need to install an app?
No. Guests open a link or scan a QR code in their phone's browser, pick a DJ name, and they're in. No app, no account.
What do I need to host?
A Roon Core on your home network, a computer on that network running the free host plugin, and any device with a browser to create and run the room. The hosting guide walks through it.
Does Roon Riot play music itself?
No. Roon does all the playback from your own library. Roon Riot searches, queues, and keeps score.
What happens if someone queues a terrible song?
Tomatoes. Enough of them, and the room skips it.
